Silly Daddy Malnourished

Silly Daddy Malnourished - webcomic by Joe Chiappetta

I held out a plate of salmon to my teenage daughter Maria who exclaimed, "I can't eat fish, Dad! You know I'm a vegetarian."

I replied, "Aw, just eat it. You're probably malnutritionist or something."

"Don't you mean, 'malnourished?'" my daughter corrected.

"Yeah, that too," I added.

Virtual Reality Scares Me

Virtual Reality Scares Me - Silly Daddy webcomic by Chiappetta
A couple walks down the city street as the wife becomes alarmed at all the dazed people traveling with big hi-tech helmets on their heads. She declares, "Virtual reality scares me. We may be the last generation that's not completely addicted to it, don't you agree?"

"Did you say something?" asks the husband, distracted by the mp3 phone in his ear.

The topic of virtual reality (VR) is a minor subplot within the sci-fi novel that I have been putting the finishing touches on. The above comic, while not at all a scene from the novel, actually came about after I made a comment on a sci-fi article covering a VR TV movie called "Virtuality." The original comment of mine went like this:

"Virtual reality scares me. It is where the world is headed and we may be the last generation of people to say that we were alive before people got addicted to it in a damaging manner. Yet no one will care, as they will, most likely, all be hooked on VR. I even wrote a book about it, and the title is... Oh, nevermind. Who's left to read books? Sorry for being so deep, but I had to get this out before tonight's show, wherein my mind will certainly turn to space-mush."

Daughter Discovers New Jacket

Silly Daddy - Daughter Discovers New Jacket

One night while on vacation at Illinois Beach State Park in Zion, I said to my daughter, "It's cold. Put on your jacket."

She replied, "No, if it gets chilly, I can just cross my arms!"

Remember When I Was A Little Kid?

My three-year-old daughter picks up a ball in our suburban backyard and says, "Remember when I was a little kid and I threw this ball over the fence?"

Me Likes Internets Phone--Now Me Very Smarter

Me Likes Internets Phone--Now Me Very Smarter - Silly Daddy webcomic by Chiappetta
A big, muscular guy holds a Windows Mobile Phone in his fist and says, "Me strong. Me likes my fancy new Internets phone. Now me very smarter!"

A hipster listening to him replies sarcastically, "Yeah, right."

Then with the phone still in his fist, the man punches the hipster, but crushes his phone in the process. The man concludes, "Me sad. Me should have got the service plan."

Me dedicates this comic to all the poor people who have had their phones broken, including Bob McMurray.

I Married A Cheese Monger

...and I love her!

I Married A Cheese Monger - Silly Daddy webcomic
While celebrating ten years of marriage, my wife ponders a potentially hefty question...

"The hotel has free appetizers! Is it wrong that I just ate fifty cheese cubes?"

I started this drawing at the Corner Bakery, but the hilarious comment that Denise mentioned took place at the Amalfi Hotel in Chicago. I thank God for the wife he has given me!

Remember Long Hair?

Remember Long Hair? Silly Daddy webcomic by Chiappetta
One evening, while looking at very old photos, my three year old daughter said to me, "Dad, I remember when you used to have long hair."

"Really?" I replied in amusement. "But you weren't born back then. Yet you still remember?"

"I do!" she replied with confidence.
